Following her marriage, children arrived in quick succession; and in a short span of years, she was the mother of a large family.
All the knowledge she had acquired, all her natural abilities and gifts, all her skills were channeled into an organization that had no earthly bounds. As a covenant-keeping daughter of God, she had prepared all her life for motherhood. What is a mother heart and how is one acquired? We learn about some of those qualities in the scriptures. A woman with a mother heart has a testimony of the restored gospel, and she teaches the principles of the gospel without equivocation. She is keeping sacred covenants made in holy temples.
Her talents and skills are shared unselfishly. She gains as much education as her circumstances will allow, improving her mind and spirit with the desire to teach what she learns to the generations who follow her. Rather than listening to the voices and partial truths of the world, she knows that gospel standards are based on eternal, unchangeable truths.
To nurture and feed them physically is as much an honor as to nurture and feed them spiritually.
Oh, that every girl and woman would have a testimony of her potential for eternal motherhood as she keeps her earthly covenants. It has inspired and challenged me. I am now leading a book club of young moms through it. Jean Fleming writes with such grace, creativity, and encouragement. Some parts of the book are ideal for young, pre-school children.
Other parts, like the Spiritua This book has shaped me as a mother. Other parts, like the Spiritual Inventory, are better suited to older children. It's truly a book that will provide you with a solid, Biblical foundation and then help you to build upon it for years to come. Highly recommended! Read it with a friend or a book club. After getting off to a slow start with this book and thinking I wasn't going to like it, I actually found myself fully absorbed in it and couldn't put it down! I was afraid it would be full of sage advice or old fashioned ideas. Instead, I found myself turning down corners of pages I know I'll reference time and again as my son grows up.

Good book agree with jean on most issues but I don't believe in hitting children lead by example you are only showing children it's o. I was reared by someone who never raised her hand, her voice yes but even then she was even tempered. She would banish me into another room until l behaved and it worked.

I wish I'd come across this book as a young mother. I wasn't a Christian at the time, but this book would have totally spoken to the combined murmurings and convictions that were in my heart. Now, 28 years later, I find I am still learning about what it means to be a Mom. This was a huge blessing to me. Of special note that I appreciated were the areas of encouragement in praying for your children.

This book came to me at the perfect time in my life! I found myself reading out loud to Josh and really taking to heart what the author had to say. Practical advice and insight for moms who are in the trenches with their young children everyday. I will hold onto this book and re-read it for sure! I should just read it continuously to keep those thoughts fresh in my mind! Amazing- if you are a Christian mom, I would highly recommend this book!

I gave this book away to several friends and it was the first book I added to my Recommended Books on my blog sidebar. I read this with my mom's group. It was the perfect book for such a group. Timeless in subject matter, it provided a wonderful starting point from which to discuss motherhood.

It is a journal which asks you questions and then provides lines for you to write your answer. It will be a great gift to pass down to my children.
